Description

Flaming Star nebula IC405 , aka Caldwell 31, lies about 1500 light years away in constellation Auriga. It is 5 light years across. The star for which the nebula is named, AE Aurigae, originally was part of the Great Orion Nebula. About 2.7 million years ago, it had a close encounter with another star, Mu Columbae. The encounter was so close, that both were ejected from the Orion complex. AE Aurigae is now moving through a region of gas and dust that give it the appearance of the Flaming Star.

I'm not sure which view I like best, full frame, or crop with the IC 405 object. I gave the crop the "final" position because I felt the detail was exceptionally good for this small refractor and an 81% moon. The full frame gives a better view of the gas and dust of this region of Auriga.

The ZWO ASI2600MM is a pleasure to use.
